Happy Chinese New Year to those celebrating. I wasn’t supposed to celebrate but my family ended up celebrating anyway and it was pretty okay hanging out with the cousins from my mom’s side I expected something to happen and it did, so no surprises. I know at some point anyone is going to ask where my girlfriend is and if she would be coming to visit and I was just on ready for that kind of question.

We were over at my grandma’s relative’s place and a few of us were gambling when one of them whispered to me “where is your girlfriend?” and I told her we were done. Another cousin of mine was sitting beside her and she was shocked because just about a month ago, I brought my ex over to my grandma’s birthday dinner it was their first time meeting my significant other and it was kinda a first time that I bring someone over for a celebration/dinner. Everybody especially my grandma loved her and up till now, I’m not sure if ah ma knows that my girlfriend is now my ex.

Truth be told, I’ve never seen my grandma being so chatty with someone outside of the family before, and during our time together (me and my ex), my grandma treated her like one of us and that’s the beauty of grandmothers. Anyway, back to the point. Yea, they were shocked and they questioned me more about it while adding “We saw her not too long ago at the dinner, what happened?” I have the answers in my head but I just don’t know how to let it out because there is more than one answer as to what happened and what’s the point of discussing when you are only gonna hear from my side? Plus, she could be happier now, and if it’s for the best, who am I to interfere?

A year ago, we would video call and her side of the family would be around her if not around, then they would come and go, you know, the younger ones disturbing when someone is video calling someone. We would chat for hours, I remember I was drinking, and we were just having a great time getting to know each other more. Who would have expected a year later, things would change? I’d probably call you crazy if you told me that is a possibility but now, it’s just reality.

Again, back to the point. We left for my grandma’s where we spent more time there. We were just chilling all together and at about 7ish, dinner was ready and I was excited to have my first meal of the day. Ah ma’s food can never disappoint and she never fails to ask me every time after I’m done eating whether it’s delicious and it beats my dad’s side of the family’s cooking. You can never compare your grandma’s cooking to another’s cooking. It’s unbeatable and it’s a fact. That’s my day, and it was pretty eventful minus the questioning. Write soon.
